Thank you all for expressing your interest in joining LUU Rugby League (LUURL) for the 2018/19 season. This week (24th-28th September) we have a few events for freshers so you can impress us with your RL skills or just give the sport a try for the first time (which I’m sure will be the case for many of you). The events are as follows:
Pub quiz social, Wednesday 26th September
For our first social of the year we will be holding a pub quiz at the new home of LUURL’s socials, The Eldon (opposite the School of Mechanical Engineering on Woodhouse Lane). It will be a good introduction for freshers to the ways of a Wednesday night social and, hopefully, a right good laugh as well. The women’s rugby league team will also be attending and there is also going to be a big main prize (the nature of which is TBC). We’ll also be getting a discount on food and drink at the pub. Some of us may also be going to The Warehouse after so, if you’re up for it, book tickets soon.
GIAG session, Friday 28th September (6-8pm)
This “give it a go” session will be our main training event for freshers. It will be held at Sports Park Weetwood, which is located about 3mi north of the campus up Otley Road- there will be lifts going to it from in front of the Parkinson Building so getting there needn’t be an issue. The session will mainly focus on basic skills and moves and will be a good introduction to the sport for those who have not played it before.
For the current squad’s pre-season training, we will be at The Edge gym from 11-12noon for strength and conditioning sessions on Wednesday and Friday and at Sports Park Weetwood 5-6pm for skills sessions. If you are interested in coming to these, please contact Freddie Found (firstname.lastname@example.org) or our other performance secretary, Harry Aaronson (email@example.com).
